Ready for a new day

I LOVE sunrises! Well, I actually prefer sunsets, only because they show up at a better time of day for me. 🙂 I also LOVE to capture moments by taking pictures.

Chicago winters can be cold, snowy, and gray. I look for the sunrise each morning. Some days I know it’s greeting me behind the grayness. Sometimes it greets me with faint hues of yellow, orange, and pinks. Today, she was majestic, and I was breathless in her beauty. It only lasted for a few minutes before she blended into the sky and started the day. Had I not looked out the window, I would have missed her even if I waited a couple of minutes to look.

It got me thinking that while each day is new, it shows up differently. Sometimes cloudy. Sometimes faint. And sometimes magical. The sun is always there; we don’t always see it. The sun is there on the days you are celebrating life. And the sun is there on days you are in sorrow. It is a constant. Breathe into that.

Moving forward, I invite you to greet your new day by:

Focusing on gratitude. Listen, life can be hard, unkind, and unjust. Those are the days that your focus is even more essential as it’s easy to find gratitude in the celebrations. Be gentle with yourself and seek out those glimmers of gratitude on the days you cannot see the sun.

Seeing the preciousness and fragility of life. Day after day, they seem to blend as there often aren’t significant differences that stand out. Holidays stand out. Days of celebration stand out. Your ‘normal’ Monday, Tuesday, or Saturday don’t stand out, and yet they each offer you the opportunity to pay attention to what is precious within them. This day will not return. Tomorrow might look similar, but today is only here for 24 hours.

By being gentle with yourself. When you find yourself in a hard time of your life, be gentle with yourself. It may appear cloudy and gray for days or even weeks, but the sun is still there. Do something kind for yourself today. Affirm that you are worthy of having great days. Know that hardship is an experience you go through; it isn’t what defines you.

Mostly, my wish for you is to look around with an eye of wonder. Be willing to see the beauty and the specialness in yourself, others, and the day. Life is oh so precious and fragile; I encourage you to live it rather than life living you.

Until next time, it’s a new dawn, it’s a new day, to feel my LOVE.

Affirmation:

I meet each day with an open heart, open mind, and open arms.
