Do you go about your day thinking that you are making memories? Did you know that your thoughts, words, and actions create precious memories in any given moment?
This past week, a friend of mine unexpectedly died. She was one of my sailing friends. I didn’t see much of her during the off-season, but I often saw her at the sailing center I volunteer for during the summer months. She was kind, caring, funny, always lending a helping hand and a good sailor. I thought about all the memories I’ve made with her through the years of sailing and that I won’t be able to make more with her. She will be missed by her family, friends, and our sailing group.
Now, I have a daily practice of gratitude, and I’m pretty diligent about focusing on what I want in my life rather than what I don’t wish to, but her unexpected death was a reminder of just how precious and fragile life is. I don’t want to spend my last possible moment in a state of frustration, anger, or disappointment. Yes, I know those feelings will still visit as that is part of life, AND I will do my best to stay focused that in any given moment, I am making memories. I can make frustrating memories, and I can make LOVING memories.
Whether in a place of celebration or sorrow, wherever you find yourself today, I encourage you to pay attention to your life’s precious and fragile and focus on creating LOVING memories that will last a lifetime.
Moving forward, I invite you to make memories by:
Start your day with the thought of going through your day knowing you are creating memories. That will help set the tone of focusing on your day going better than expected.
Stepping into a space of deep gratitude. Being grateful for the big moments, the little moments, and the moments in between.
Be gentler and kinder to yourself. We tend to be our worst enemies, and I’m sure you wouldn’t let others talk to you like you often speak to yourself. Be kind to my friend (you)!
By saying YES, more to joyful adventures. The adventure can be something small or something big but say YES to them.
By ending your day in gratitude and daily letting go of anything that doesn’t serve you in living your best life. One way to do that is to shower and see the ‘yuck’ of the day being washed away down the drain.
Mostly, my hope for you is to live your precious life the way you want to live it, with the people you want to live it with, and by making LOVING memories each day.
Affirmation:
I am creating LOVING and fun memories with each thought, word, and action I take.
