Stay with me for a moment, because this might sound silly at first.
I love candles. I love the flicker of the flame, the cozy glow they create, and the scent that slowly fills a room. Recently, I decided to try battery-operated candles. Practicality won out for a moment. I knew they wouldn’t be the same. There would be no scent and no real flame, but I was curious.
I’ve had seven of them for a few weeks now, all set to the same timer. They turn on every evening without me having to remember, which is lovely. But yesterday, I noticed something I hadn’t paid attention to before.
Even though they’re all on the same timer, they don’t light up at exactly the same moment.
One by one, they came to life.
There wasn’t a pattern I could see. No perfect sequence. No dramatic delay. Just seven candles, each responding in its own time.
As I watched them, I found myself thinking about life.
We make plans. We dream. We prepare. We take courageous steps toward what matters to us. Yet there is often an element of timing that remains outside our control. Sometimes the things we’re hoping for appear all at once. Other times, they arrive gradually, like a sunrise spreading across the horizon.
We sometimes assume that because something hasn’t happened yet, it may not happen. And the truth is, some dreams don’t unfold in the ways we imagined they would.
Sometimes what we’re hoping for arrives later than expected. Sometimes it arrives wearing a different outfit than the one we envisioned. And sometimes, along the way, we evolve. What once felt essential may no longer be what we’re being called toward.
There are also dreams that may never come to fruition. Acknowledging that can bring sadness, disappointment, or even grief. Yet even then, the dream mattered. It shaped us. It taught us something about what we value, what we long for, and who we became while carrying it.
Those candles reminded me that beauty doesn’t necessarily appear on our schedule. It also reminded me that life is often unfolding whether we can see the whole picture or not. Sometimes a new possibility begins lighting up while we’re still focused on the one we thought we wanted.
Sometimes the gift is receiving the dream. Sometimes the gift is becoming someone we may never have become without it.
As you continue creating a life you love, remember my candles. What you’re dreaming about, preparing for, and boldly stepping toward may not show up when you expect it to. Some dreams may evolve. Others may lead you somewhere entirely unexpected. And some may remain dreams. Whatever unfolds, your life is happening now, not someday.
Moving forward, I invite you to honor where you are while remaining open to what is unfolding by:
Noticing what’s already glowing.
It’s easy to focus on what hasn’t happened yet. Take a moment each day to acknowledge what is growing, shifting, healing, or bringing you joy right now.
Releasing the urge to compare timelines.
Lives unfold differently, and comparison often leaves out important parts of the story. Your path doesn’t need to look like anyone else’s to be meaningful.
Honoring the progress that may be easy to overlook.
Some seasons may be more about steady steps, quiet healing, or gathering courage for what’s next. Small shifts can create meaningful change over time.
Offering yourself grace during the waiting.
Waiting can feel uncomfortable. It’s okay to feel uncertain, disappointed, hopeful, or excited. Meet yourself with the same kindness you would offer a dear friend.
Some chapters move quickly. Others unfold more gradually. Some arrive exactly as hoped, while others take unexpected turns. Each season offers an opportunity to learn more about yourself, your resilience, and what matters most.
If you’re ready to step more fully into a life that feels aligned, meaningful, and authentically yours, I’d be honored to support you. Together, we can explore what’s calling for your attention, what may be ready to shift, and how you can continue living boldly, right here, in the life that’s unfolding before you.
Affirmation
I honor my unfolding journey.
