How do you know when to wait… and when it’s time to move?
I think about that question whenever something isn’t happening in the timeframe I had imagined. Is it delayed? Is the timing simply not right? Or is there something I can do to help move it along?
There are plenty of sayings about how what is meant for you won’t pass you by. I understand why those words can be comforting, but I don’t think life is always that tidy. Maybe something meant for us can arrive looking different than we expected. Sometimes the package changes, but the feeling is still right.
Maybe you’re waiting for more clarity. Maybe you’re waiting until you feel more prepared. Maybe you’re waiting because taking that next step feels uncomfortable. Or maybe the timing genuinely isn’t right.
Then there are the things we haven’t done yet.
Only you can really know the difference.
That’s what makes this worth paying attention to. Rather than judging yourself for waiting, get curious about it. Is this pause serving you? Or is there a small step you could take that might help you move forward?
Moving forward, I invite you to:
Ask what you’re waiting for.
Is there something you genuinely need before moving forward? More information? More time? A little clarity? Giving yourself space to identify what you’re waiting for can tell you something important.
Notice how the waiting feels.
Does the pause feel peaceful and purposeful? Or does it leave you feeling stuck, frustrated, or weighed down? Your feelings may offer a useful clue.
Take judgment out of the equation.
If you realize you’ve been putting something off, you don’t need to feel like you’re wrong for it. You can simply acknowledge it and decide what you want to do from here.
Consider one small step.
You don’t need to have everything figured out before you begin. Sometimes sending the email, making the call, opening the document, or spending a few minutes on the task is enough to create some movement.
There will be things in life that take longer than we’d like. There will also be moments when we realize the next move may be ours to make. Knowing the difference takes some self-awareness, a little patience, and perhaps a willingness to ask ourselves a question we might not have considered.
Am I waiting… or am I ready to move?
Affirmation
I honor my timing and move forward.
