Recently, I went to the lake to catch the sunrise. I live just a few minutes away, so it’s an easy trip. While I knew the weather might not be ideal, I still made my way there, waiting patiently for the sun to break through the clouds. Even though the skies were overcast, I snapped a picture of the Chicago skyline and carried on with my day.
When I shared the photo on social media, a friend commented about seeing a heart in the sky. I hadn’t noticed it at first, but when I took a second look, it was right there! That moment served as a reminder that even when we see something clearly, we may be missing hidden gems.

Do you see the heart? It’s right above the John Hancock building.
This experience is much like how we approach our dreams and goals. Sometimes, we get so focused on one specific outcome or vision of how things should look that we miss out on other possibilities. Broadening our perspective can open the door to new, unexpected beauty—and new opportunities.
Moving forward, I invite you to broaden your perspective by:
Letting go of rigid expectations. When you step away from the need to control the outcome, you create space for new possibilities to unfold in ways you may not have imagined..
Being open to the unexpected. Life often surprises us with opportunities we didn’t plan for. You can find beauty and inspiration in the unexpected by staying open to unplanned moments. I like to add unexpected joy or joyful surprises.
Asking new questions. Shift your thinking by asking, “What else could this situation show me?” Sometimes, a simple change in perspective can help you see things in a new light.
Practicing presence. When you’re genuinely in the moment, you notice things you might otherwise miss—the heart in the clouds or the quiet beauty of a cloudy day.
As I work with my clients, I see how powerful it is to broaden the lens through which we view our lives. Often, there’s more than one path to where we want to go, and sometimes, the way things unfold may be even better than we could have imagined.
Affirmation:
I am open to new possibilities.
