I recently had the pleasure of attending Andy Grammer’s one-man show. I’ve seen him several times over the past five years, and he remains one of my favorites. His music and who he is are rooted in LOVE and kindness, messages that resonate deeply. While I enjoyed his songs before my mom’s passing in 2018, her death gave me a new perspective on his music. Andy’s mom passed away when he was 25, and many of his songs are dedicated to her memory, which brings an emotional depth to his work that I’ve come to appreciate even more.
During this concert, Andy shared a powerful message from a spiritual teacher (whose name I can’t recall) about how acts of kindness are like sending a gift to heaven for a LOVED one. He reflected on how people often say that kindness is only genuine if done anonymously, yet he highlighted the impact of sharing kind acts to inspire others. Before the show began, the audience wrote their acts of kindness on paper, and Andy read some aloud. Hearing those stories was incredibly moving. It was a reminder that sharing kindness doesn’t just benefit the recipient but also lifts others and inspires more acts of kindness in return.
Yes, quietly doing something kind without seeking recognition is wonderful. But sharing those moments can inspire others and spread even more goodwill. It’s easy to sense the energy behind someone who shares kindness to encourage others, as opposed to someone who shares it to boast. Kindness doesn’t have to be grand; it can be as simple as a smile or a kind word. And sometimes, it can be as significant as paying off someone’s debt if you’re able. Both hold equal power in transforming lives.
Moving forward, I encourage you to:
Offer a smile to a stranger –You never know how much a simple smile can brighten someone’s day and yours too.
Help someone in need –Small acts of service go a long way, whether helping carry groceries or offering a ride.
Share a story of kindness – When you experience or witness a kind act, share it with others to inspire them to do the same.
Send an anonymous gift – Surprise someone with a gesture of generosity, whether a note, flowers, or a small gift, without expecting anything in return.
Kindness is a ripple; even the smallest acts can create waves of change. Let your kindness shine quietly or be shared because every act matters.
Until next time, your kind gesture might be what saves someone’s life. And it might be your own.
Affirmation
I choose kindness in my thoughts, words, and actions.
